Course Structure

Our practical skill development workshops are delivered from an installers perspective and offer real-life examples and guidance that is not available through any other option. Our courses are not designed to replace the formal micro credential training courses offered by WITT & E-Tec but to support your formal learning with enhanced practical skill based training. Our workshops are not sales focused or product knowledge based. They cover the practical aspects of solar energy installation.

We keep our workshop numbers small in order to give everyone the opportunity to complete the hands-on training section and have adequate opportunity to ask questions. Every attendee is given a course booklet outlining the course content and an attendance certificate. The booklet is designed to be a resource that you can refer to during your future installations.  Our 2 day Grid Connected Solar Energy workshop offers a complete overview of grid connected solar energy installation from start to finish. If you are new to the industry we recommend you complete this base workshop before attending any others.

Our 1 day courses have focused content on specific areas of solar energy installation and are designed to develop a higher understanding and skill level in that particular area. They are designed for electricians working in solar installation who already have an understanding of the basics but want to broaden their knowledge and improve their skills.

A range of 1 and 2 day courses will become available as well as the option of requesting in house learning for your staff. We are available to custom design courses and travel across the country to deliver our content.  We base our workshops on the principles of the GSES courses offered in Australia and our experience working in the solar industry. We are constantly developing new training options –  let us know if there is a specific area of training that your require, we can direct you to the course that will benefit you the most or look at developing one that will meet your requirements.

Why us?

Our courses are designed for New Zealand Electricians wanting a Professional Development option that will deliver good sound practical advice and knowledge about Grid Connected Solar Energy Installations in New Zealand directly from experienced installers.

Our workshops are structured to run through the main requirements covering topics such as the relevant standards, system design considerations, installation tips & techniques, electrical testing plus more. This practical training is delivered by a Qualified Solar Technician with over a decade of real-life installation experience who will share his knowledge and experience with you to improve your skills.

A mix of classroom and practical content is presented to small groups to ensure an optimum learning experience. Our workshops have been developed to broaden your knowledge, increase awareness of installation requirements and improve your skills in this specialised field.

The Importance of Solar Training

Solar Energy is a specialised field of work and not something that should be undertaken without specialist training. In Australia electricians installing solar energy need to complete the required training levels before they can install systems. New Zealand has only recently starting offering specialist Solar Energy Training with the introduction of courses based on the Australian GSES course content.

The 3 courses now available at both WITT and E-tec are  –

Grid Connected Battery Storage Systems – Design & Install

Stand Alone Power Systems – Design & Install

Our trainer has studied with GSES in Australia and has gained these qualifications well before they became available here in N.Z. He is also an electrical inspector and has consulted on systems which have highlighted a general lack of installation knowledge & skill in our solar industry.

With many systems including lithium storage, the importance of completing installations to a high level of compliance and safety for both the system owner and the installer are paramount. Understanding the complexity of working with Solar Energy is essential.

The hands-on component and guidance that we offer is an invaluable experience that will give you the skills to work on installations with more confidence.

Course Venues

Some of our courses are delivered in conjunction with the support of a wholesale partner at one of their branches throughout New Zealand. We do this in order to have the maximum reach to electricians working in the industry. Our workshops are not sales focused or product knowledge based, they cover the practical aspects of solar energy installation.

We also hold independent regional courses – these may be held at a variety of meeting rooms and community centres.

The type of course content may vary between sites so please read the full description before selecting the workshop that suits you best.

There is also an option for our trainer to present our base course or a customised option directly to your staff at your workplace. Contact us for more details if this is your preferred option. Customised workshops are presented to a minimum of 10 people.
